Abstract | District Metered Areas (DMAs) are a pivotal innovation in sustainable water distribution networks (WDNs), offering enhanced control over water loss, pressure management, and operational efficiency. This paper comprehensively reviews advancements in DMA design methodologies, including graph-theoretic approaches, modularity-based optimization, and innovative water technologies. Emphasis is placed on their role in addressing water scarcity, improving non-revenue water (NRW) management, and ensuring water quality. Challenges such as hydraulic redundancy, economic feasibility, and implementation in developing regions are critically analyzed. Future trends, including IoT integration and machine learning, are explored to highlight DMAs' transformative potential in global water sustainability. |
