Abstract:
The utilization of internet and computer for student advancement is investigated among the students of the Allover Central polytechnic Akure, Nigeria. An open-ended questionnaire-based survey method was employed among the student and the Lecturers. The students had some basic computer and internet skills; however, they lacked more advanced skills and this negatively affected their use of internet resources. The students used the internet for various purposes, study, research, communication; and for social interaction. The major recommendations of the study include providing formal internet training and adequate facilities; implementing a better, basic skills in computer applications, internet facility around the school, and better coordinated efforts from the Polytechnic. The use of the free internet access and availability of computers was also a very good encouragement to the student.
